Grand Duchess Anastasia was the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II. In 1918, the family was executed by the Bolshevik secret police, including 17 year old Anastasia. However, rumours persisted that Anastasia had somehow escaped, this fuelled by the fact that the location of her burial remained unknown. A mass grave was revealed in 1991 which contained every member of the family but the son and one daughter (Anastasia or her elder sister Maria were thought to be missing). Many people have claimed to be Anastasia since, the most famous of which (Anna Anderson) proved to be a false claim after DNA testing. In 2007, two more bodies were found, which proved to be the remaining members of the family, conclusive proof that Anastasia didn’t survive.
This slot takes a romantic view of the story, much in the same way that the Disney film ‘Anastasia’ adapted the story in 1997. However, the look of this slot is much more like that of the film ‘Frozen’, with ice and snow covering the entire slot. There are three characters on the reels – Anastasia herself being the standout symbol, appearing much like any other beautiful Disney princess. She is accompanied on the reels by her father Tsar Nicholas II and the bearded Rasputin, and each of the three feature animation when forming part of a win line. They are joined by a number of playing card symbols, each of these encased in a block of ice. A slow, somewhat sorrowful tune accompanies each spin – perfectly fitting for the sad story of Anastasia.
Anastasia: The Lost Princess
This retelling of the story of Anastasia is played out on a 5 reel slot, each of the reels featuring three symbols. There are a maximum of 25 win lines in play and this is set as the default amount, although you can change it to fewer by using the sliders on either side of the reels. You’ll choose both your coin value and the coin amount, which in combination with the number of win lines will set your total stake for a spin.
Anastasia herself is the top paying standard symbol at the slot and landing her five times in a row gives you a win of 1,500 coins. Her father pays 1,000 while Rasputin is worth 750. A golden trophy and the playing cards from 9 to Ace complete the standard symbols on the reels. You’ll win when landing any symbol three or more times from left to right on a win line, although the number 9 actually pays out for just two.
The wild is represented by the title symbol of the slot and this will substitute for any other symbol on the reels (apart from the scatter) giving you additional wins. This is also the highest paying symbol on the reels, as landing five in a row gives you an impressive 2,000 coin win.
